CHARACTER WITNESS

Young Judas was a comrade, And, more than that, a friend. While most folks aren't reliable, Upon him I'd depend. He never was a liar, All that he said was real. He always kept his given word, And he would never steal! Yet Judas went and hanged himself. I've tried to find out why. I've asked those fisher friends o' his; I don't trust their reply. They said he was a traitor, That he betrayed his "Lord." It must have been some real bad thing To make him knot the cord! What's more, when keepin' purse o' theirs, They say, he was a thief. They claim to have the proof of it, But it's beyond belief-- Unless, of course, he saw great need, With reasons not to care-- Like, if his master would be rich, And thus had coins to spare! I can't believe that he went bad, And did some awful crime. He was comitted to our cause; He just was biding time Until Messiah would appear And bring opression's end. If Judas could bring that about, He'd act. He was my friend.
